Beginning in 2016, North Carolina will require voters to show a photo identification when they vote in person. In the 2015 elections, in-person voters may present a photo ID before voting, but will not be required to do so. Voters will also be asked if they have one of the approved forms of ID. If a voter indicates he or she does not have a photo acceptable for the voting in 2016, that voter will be asked to sign an acknowledgement of the photo ID requirement and given a list of acceptable forms of photo ID and information on how to obtain one.
