Voter Registration Deadline for November Municipal Elections

VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR NOVEMBER MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS

MONROE, NC – The voter registration deadline for the November 5, 2019 Municipal Elections is Friday, October 11. Voter registration applications that are received by the county board of elections office or postmarked by the deadline are accepted as valid applications for the upcoming election. To register to vote in North Carolina, a prospective voter must meet all of the following qualifications:  

  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must live in the county of registration, and have resided there for at least 30 days prior to the date of the election.
  • Must be at least 18 years old. A prospective voter can submit a registration form up to two years before their 18th birthday, if and only if they will be 18 at the time of the next general election.
  • Must not be serving a sentence for a felony conviction, including probation or parole. If a prospective voter has previously been convicted of a felony, their citizenship rights must be restored.

Voters who are not registered in the county by the deadline may register and vote during one stop voting only. Same-day registrants at early voting must attest to their eligibility and provide proof of residence by presenting any of the following showing the voter’s current name and current address:

  • North Carolina driver’s license;
  • Other photo identification issued by a government agency;
  • A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document showing the voter’s name and address; or
  • A current college/university photo identification card paired with a current roster prepared by the college/university and transmitted to the county board of elections office, which lists all students residing in campus housing facilities.

Residents can print a voter registration application from the Union County Board of Elections or North Carolina Board of Elections website. Once completed, the application should be signed and then mailed to Board of Elections, PO Box 1106, Monroe, NC 28111. Voter registration applications are also available at the Board of Elections office, public libraries, and high schools. PUBLIC NOTICE:

The Village Council, at their Work Session Meeting on September 26, 2019, voted to revise their Meeting Schedule changing the date of their Work Session Meeting originally scheduled for October 24, 2019 at 10 a.m. to October 31, 2019 at 10 a.m. This change is due to conflicts of several council members.

Dear Neighbors:

MARSH (Marvin Association for the Restoration and Sustainability of wildlife Habitat) invites you to attend “for SNAKES sake” a presentation about our friend the snake. Please join us at Marvin Efird Park, 8909 New Town Rd. Marvin, NC on Tuesday, October 15 between 6:30 and 8:00 PM for a fun and enjoyable evening.

Our presenter will be Grover Barfield, Director of Carolinas Reptile Rescue. His goal is to instill a sense of conservation and respect for our native reptiles and amphibians; to convert fear into fascination, to substitute myth with reality and to replace misunderstanding with knowledge. He will bring reptiles on location for everyone to see.

This is a free program for the public, so put it on your calendar and bring the entire family!

Dear Friends,

MARSH invites you to visit the gardens of two of our members as well as the gardens at Marvin Efird Park on Saturday, September 21, 2019 between 10:00 a.m. and 12 p.m.   We hope that you will join us to see how we have created wildlife friendly gardens that anyone can do.  The gardens can be enjoyed by all ages and we hope you will bring the entire family. 

This is a free garden tour and won’t take too much time since we are all so close together.  Please use the attached flyer for the locations of the gardens.  You may visit the gardens in any order that works for you.

Your Voice Matters!! The Village of Marvin is updating its Comprehensive Land Use Plan. The new plan will focus on the visionary framework for development in the Village of Marvin. Your input is essential to ensure the plan identifies the needs and desires of the citizens in the Village of Marvin Community.

Be on the lookout for the postcard in the mail that will provide a "Household Survey Code" and instructions for accessing the new 2019 Village of Marvin Community Survey. The survey will be online. If you need a paper copy, please contact the Village Hall at (704) 843-1680.

Closing date for the survey is October 7.

Be on the lookout for the postcard that will be sent in the mail sometime next week. The postcard will provide instructions for filling out the new 2019 Village of Marvin Community Survey. Each resident household will be provided a “Household Survey Code” to access the survey. The survey will be online. If you need a paper copy, please contact the Village Hall at (704) 843-1680.

PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE

Please take notice that the Marvin Village Council has called for a public hearing to be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in the Village Hall (10004 New Town Rd.) to receive public comment on the following:

  1. To consider approval of Temporary Use Permit #19-12300 for Construction Storage and Office Trailers at Marvin Gardens (1615 Providence Road South).

The Village of Marvin reserves the right to make amendments to the proposed documents based on information received at the public hearing.  Citizens are invited to make written and oral comment.  All documents are available for inspection in the Village Clerk’s Office by calling the Village Hall at (704) 843-1680. 

The Village of Marvin does not discriminate based on disability.  If you need auxiliary aid service or other accommodations to attend or fully participate at the public hearing(s), please contact the Village Clerk by email at clerk@marvinnc.org or by phone at (704) 843-1680 ext. 102 at least one week in advance so accommodations can be provided.

Change in Meeting Location

The Village Planning Board has moved their meeting location for September 17th because of a potential increase in citizen attendance. The new location for the Village Planning Board meeting scheduled for September 17th will be at Banks Fellowship Hall (10012 New Town Road) adjacent to the Village Hall. The Planning Board will meet at their normally scheduled time at 6:30 p.m.
